- Aug 24, 2007 · Alright guys, heres my problem. I drove home, pulled in the driveway and parked. When I came back out, I started my truck and it won't come out of park. When I tried to shut the truck off it won't let me turn the key past the ACC setting. To get the key out I had to undo the negative cable from the battery.

If you can see the shaft turning and it still doesn't go into reverse, then something must be wrong internally which means the transmission needs to be fixed. That's the best I can do from here! You need to have the red wire hot going into the ignition switch. If that is hot, the transaxle has to be in neutral to activate the neutral safety switch. You can run a jumper wire across the plug going to the switch and try it. Purple wire out of the safety switch goes to the starter solenoid. This is a switch located in the shifter mechanism that keeps the engine from starting if the transmission isn't in park or neutral. A bad Crankshaft Position sensor is a common cause of no starts. The signal from this sensor goes to the PCM or ignition module that switches the ignition coil (s) on and off. If you have an RPM signal, a bad ignition module or PCM may not be switching the coil (s) on and off.
